Baby Luke

This is Luke (and his big sister, Mary, too--she wouldn't let me forget that she also needed her photos taken).

I've been wanting to meet little Luke for a while now, and was finally able to set a time with his mom to meet up and snap some photos of him. So, here he is, just three weeks old in these photos, and he does not disappoint! Luke was a good little guy for our photo session. Babies seem to be especially mesmerized by the snap of my shutter--I'm pretty sure this is a key factor in successful baby sessions.

These are probably my favorite shots of the day. I love how sweet and happy Mary is with her new little brother.

Beautiful Baby Isla

This is Isla (pronounced EYE-LUH). I'm loving her name; her parents chose wisely.

My good friend Sam and her husband wanted to capture Isla in all of her newborn perfection, so that's just what we did. Isla is just ten days old in these photos--so delicate and amazing.

I love taking photos that depict babies and their families in an honest light--baby just hanging out with mom and dad at home, the family experiencing the new normal that comes along with a new baby. There were so many of these honest and beautiful moments with Isla, Sam, and Michael. Congratulations again to the new little family.

Toni's Barn

My aunt, Toni, has always had a small barn in her backyard. Until now, it's been relatively empty and longing for something barn-ish to be put inside.

These little chicks are just what her barn needed; its no longer sad and lonely.

I love how curious and brand new they look at this point in their lives.

Family Outing - Mandy, Rob, Simone & Graham

Mandy and I had been planning on getting together to take some photos of her cute family for quite some time and finally got around to it.

I met up with Mandy, Rob and their twins, Simone and Graham, at Mission San Juan Capistrano for this shoot. The mission is beautiful and offers so much diversity for photography and for the eyes in general. It was the loveliest of days and pretty uncrowded--perfect for their shoot--and Simone and Graham were such good sports, especially Graham, who endured being sat on the grass, which he couldn't hate more (poor little guy)! I'm so glad we finally got around to taking their photos. Enjoy!

Alyson & Ryan are major lovebirds. These two were married at the Newport Beach Temple last weekend. It was a lovely sunny afternoon (I have the funky sandal tan lines to prove it) complete with hummingbirds zipping through the trees. Thanks for having me along, guys! It was a fun time. The Parker Palm Springs

Have you been to The Parker hotel in Palm Springs? It's a beautiful hotel with even more beautiful grounds (but not-so-beautiful rates). Surrounded by a fortress of tall trees, The Parker is easy to miss and drive right past, but if you can find your way to the bold and towering orange front doors, your eyes are in for a treat.

Once inside, there's much to look at in terms of decor, and just wait 'til you exit to the courtyard. Each turn brings a new surprise; its paths are labyrinthine and reveal hidden gardens and seating areas you wouldn't know were there had you chanced upon another path.

So, on your next trip out to Palm Springs, if you can't afford a night at The Parker (or just simply refuse to fork over the cash for one), at least pretend you can and take a walk around the grounds as if you're a guest--you won't be disappointed.

Earlier this week I had the great pleasure of second-shooting (paparazzi style) Jeff and Stephanie's engagement session in the park alongside my talented friend, Jenn King. Jeff and Stephanie

brought along their fun and freshly groomed pup, O'Malley--complete with green bow tie and leash to

match his Irish name. This little dog was a good little guy for the camera and made this shoot all the

A Summer Evening at the Fair

I love county fairs and the small town feel I get from them, so I'm always sure to attend the local fair when it comes back to town. Here are some of my favorite shots from the 2010 Orange County Fair. I'd love to go back and shoot (and eat) some more--there's so much to see and do that I was sometimes distracted from taking photos--but I believe it's coming to an end this weekend. Sigh. Not to worry though--there's still the Ventura County Fair and I don't mind the drive.

The last time I saw Jay, he was a newborn, too delicate for me to feel completely comfortable even just holding him. Now that he's a bit more sturdy, however, I didn't feel too bad having him sit (and sometimes topple over) in the tall, itchy grass while I snapped away on my camera. Jay was such a good sport and I think it helped that he was quite interested in the grass. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him munch on it!

Playing with Jana & Jay in the park was such fun. Jana is a beautiful mother--just look at her! Editing their photos was easy on the eyes. Jay is one lucky little baby.

This little fellow needed some photos taken to jump start his acting career, so I thought I'd put his acting skills to the test. As a photographer, I'm used to directing my clients, but this kid made my job easy. Daniel, like a true Divo, ended up directing me. His looks were planned out, and he knew what he wanted and how he wanted it. Here are a couple of his "looks." Check out that range of emotion. There's no question he'll be famous one day.

Camilo and Brenda Get Married!

Shooting Camilo & Brenda's wedding day was nothing short of a pleasure and a party. It was clear to me how in love these two are. They're a great couple, so much fun, and I'm very happy they have eachother.

Their wedding was quite unique. For one, Brenda wore a cute purple wedding dress! I thought it was awesome. They had a beautiful ceremony held at the old Santa Ana Courthouse with a Latin'd out fiesta to follow at the groom's lovely home. Oh, and there was a French crepe station! How cool is that? In order to make my life simpler, Grafia Photography is now Danielle Locken Photography. I'm sad to see the old name go, but happy that the new name is now going to be, well, my name. I think it makes a lot more sense. This change also comes in the wake of finding out that the domain name I've been hoping would never be claimed is no longer available. Go figure. Oh well! Danielle Locken Photography has a nice ring to it, don't you agree?
